The Indonesian Mimic Octopus (Thaumoctopus Mimicus)

Watch this 3 minute video to see an octopus that thwarts predators by changing color from decorative stripes to menacing solid black, by imitating a flounder, a venomous lion fish, and a sea snake, the latter being one of the most poisonous animals on earth. It can imitate more than 15 different species. This versatile creature was discovered off the coast of Sulawesi in Indonesia, in 1998. It’s smart, too, clever enough to know which impersonation will present the greatest threat to any would-be predator.
